All About THCa

What is THCa?

THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw and live cannabis. It's the precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). When THCa is heated, it converts into THC through a process called decarboxylation.

Is THCa Legal?

Federally, yes, THCa is legal. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived products are legal as long as they contain no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. Since THCa is not psychoactive in its raw form and doesn’t count as Delta-9 THC, it falls within that legal framework.

However, local state and county or city laws may vary in your jurisdiction.

What Products Contain THCa?

You can find THCa in:

  • Hemp flower
  • Vapes and cartridges
  • Concentrates (diamonds, badder, etc.)
  • Edibles and tinctures
