Using vaporizers for cannabis is not a new invention. Since these nifty smoking devices were released for smokers to use, weed lovers have been finding a way to use them to get high. The idea is that vaping is safer for the lungs and leaves nothing but pure THC vapor. Not to mention that it is healthier because it separates the tar and the smoke leaving you with vapor.
However, vaping cannabis is pretty similar to vaping tobacco. Tobacco contains no psychoactive ingredients and vaping tobacco can be found virtually anywhere. Cannabis must be ground up by hand in order to be vaped, or can be used with a grinder but tends to give off better vapor when it is ground up finer. Here are a few other differences between the two and what you should consider when vaping marijuana.
What is Vaping?
Vaping marijuana involves heating the herb up to at least 350-390 degrees Fahrenheit where it then turns into vapor. This releases THC, enabling you to breathe in deep and experience the high you’re after. Not all herbs vaporize at the same temperature so it may vary whether you are vaping marijuana, lavender or tobacco. The vaporizer contains all the elements necessary to heat the herb up to the proper temperature to release the THC in the lower chamber. Then, the air will migrate to the top chamber and into the balloon where it can be inhaled through a mouthpiece. The vapor will cool and then deliver the desired effect quickly and powerfully. This is another difference between smoking and vaporizing. When you vaporize, the vapor is a much cooler temperature so it does not hurt your throat or lungs as much as smoking would.
Typically, the average vaporizer takes around 10 seconds – 1.5 minutes to heat up to the proper temperature. Digital vaporizers cut this time in half, so keep this in mind when deciding which vaporizer to buy.
Types of Vaporizers
Vaporizers are available in a plethora of different styles, functions, and sizes. As with any other major purchase, it’s safe to say that the more expensive the vaporizer is the better quality you’ll receive. Some of the cheaper vaporizers are great for travel, but you should stick with a higher end unit if you plan on using the vaporizer daily. Not all high end vaporizers perform the same so its best to read reviews through out the King Pen Vapes Blog.
Portable Vaporizers – Portable vaporizers are the ones meant for traveling, putting it in your pocket or your backpack. Carry it with you and if the vape allows it, switch it from a dry herb vape to a wax vape pen. They can have good battery life at times depending on the size of the battery but some may die out quicker than needed and in need of a recharge. They usually operate by the click of a button which usually control the power of the battery and sometimes the temperature control settings.
Desktop Vaporizers – Desktop vaporizers tend to be made of better quality with a lot of power behind them compared to portable herbal vaporizers. Expect the price on desktop vaporizers to range higher than the portable vapes but you can pick up Arizer V-Towers for about $129.95. They are usually more accurate in temperature control settings and can have a wider range. Desktop herbal vaporizers can also be used by filling up a bag full of vapor or just inhale the vapor through a whip or small tube as it vaporizes.
The average vaporizer holds around .1-.25 grams of ground up weed. Depending on your daily intake, that should last you at least a full 24 hours. You can also add unique flavors to your weed like you would with tobacco. This enhances the flavor and replaces the sometimes “mechanical” taste that vaporizers leave in your mouth.
How Much Should You Spend?
Once again, the price you pay would depend on what you’re looking for. However, we can tell you that the average vaporizer is around $60. They go up to $600 for the highest quality vaporizers on the market. Anywhere around $250 is what we recommend paying for a vaporizer.
